Hi everyone,
I will be away on medical leave starting on January 25th and back at school on February 8th. If you need to see a counselor, we’ve got you covered. You can either email Ms. Diala or stop by the MS Office and let her know you would like to talk to someone. Ms. Diala will schedule you with one of the other ACS counselors (ES or HS).
You always have the option to chat with Ms. Mac or Mr. Thomas if you would like help problem solving or need some support.
I hope you have a wonderful two weeks and I’ll see you in February!
Ms. Martinez

ALL Middle School students to use the cafe.
Things to remember:
The cafe is ONLY AVAILABLE TO MS DURING LUNCH
MS students should NOT be there during breaks
This is a quiet area - people 5m away should NOT understand your conversation
Starting this Sunday (Feb 1), Grade 6 students are invited back to use these spaces:
The Cafe: You may sit here during lunch, as long as you keep the volume at a quiet, respectful level.
The Field: You can play football/soccer during your assigned times.
So many of you consistently do the right thing, and we truly appreciate your leadership. We are also confident that those who found these expectations challenging in December have had time to reflect on what is appropriate for our community.
We are excited to see you using these spaces again, let’s work together to keep them available for everyone!
“Middle School, are you ready to shine? 🌟🌟🌟
This is YOUR moment! Whether you sing, dance, act, or have a unique talent to share—step up, stand out, and show us what courage really looks like! Check out the upcoming performance opportunities and email Mr. K to join the excitement!
Drop in a "Just Because" for someone who has made a difference for you :)

Knowing how to adjust your behavior based on where you are is a social "superpower" called code-switching. It’s not about changing who you are; it’s about showing respect for the space you’re in and the people you are around.
Think of it like a volume dial:
Eg 1. You might be in the gym, cheering at the top of your lungs to energize a team, but in a theatre, "cheering" means waiting for the performance to end before giving a round of applause.
Eg 2. While a high-energy school cafeteria is perfect for loud laughs, a quiet cafe requires a more relaxed, "indoor" voice.
Don't worry if you don't get it perfect every time - it takes practice! We encourage you to start "reading the room" intentionally. Before you walk into a new space, take a quick second to observe:
What is the energy like here?
How are others communicating?
Knowing to calibrate to different settings is a sign of maturity, and the more you practice it, the more natural it will become.
Introduce yourself and mention which grade you are in.
Tell the title, author and illustrator of the book that you read and genuinely enjoyed.
Summarize the book without giving away the end.
Share what you liked the most about the book.
Add a cliffhanger or a suggestion to learn more.
Tell why you think others might like to read the book.
Smile! Get excited! Have fun! 😀
